Founded in 1984, Golden Arrow (GA) has truly come a long way over the years to become the world’s largest manufacturer of the highest quality wet press molded fiber today. With more than 100 thermo-forming machines, the company produces millions of products per year for the largest consumer electronics companies in the world. “Over the last decade we have become the world leader in wet press molded fiber, a sustainable material composed primarily of bamboo and bagasse, a sugarcane byproduct,” mentions Jason Sullivan, Golden Arrow’s Associate Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

GA’s secondary material—bagasse—has traditionally been an unused post-harvest material. Thanks to its innovative engineers, the company is now able to recycle a material that has historically been discarded as waste while also providing sugarcane farmers with a secondary profit source from their farming. “Because of these amazing materials, we avoid the use of any trees whatsoever and have zero deforestation as a result of our final product,” adds Sullivan. GA is one of a handful of truly vertically integrated molded fiber manufacturers in China. The company produces its rigid boxes on the same campus as the wet press molded fiber and controls the quality systems and inventory management of all clients. GA has the capability to take a client from initial concept design all the way to product kitting and assembly, making it a truly perfect match for any client looking for a sustainable packaging alternative.

Historically the molded fiber and molded pulp manufacturing markets were highly limited in terms of cosmetic personalization and improved aesthetics, as no technology existed to make the material more visually appealing. GA broke the mold and has transformed what is possible with molded fiber material. Breakthrough technologies give them the capability to color match any PMS call out to its material, also allowing to foil stamp, emboss/deboss, and even utilize a thermal image type of transfer on to the material.

We have numerous patents and have been a trailblazer in this industry with regard to our ability to produce the finest wet press molded fiber for our clients

As an example, one of GA’s major clients had been using thermoform plastic trays in their packaging for over a decade. It wasn’t until 2016 that the client became aware of molded fiber and became interested in pivoting to a more sustainable initiative. With over 30 SKUs, GA was able to re-design the client’s trays to be universal parts without impacting the overall size of the packaging. For this client, GA made a smooth and easy transition from plastic to molded fiber and is still working with them to this day.

From a structural design improvement, GA has a flangeless design that is now able to produce an entire box made out of molded fiber; and not just the inner trays. The company not only produces sustainable materials, but its manufacturing process is sustainable as well. “We have zero emission factories that use 100 percent water recycling and also several forms of environmentally friendly and supportive energy (solar power, wind turbines, natural lighting, convection cooling, steam energy),” says Sullivan. Further, GA recycles the majority of scrap or cut off molded fiber that it produces. The company believes that in order to truly make a sustainable difference in the industry, they need to fully commit to an environmentally responsible model, making it an industry-leading manufacturer when it comes to sustainability.

This reflects in the roadmap of GA. The company is committed to becoming the global innovative ambassador in sustainable packaging for the days to come. “We align our future vision to be the leading-edge pioneer as the solution provider in green packaging and innovation for our clients with total integrated packaging solutions,” informs Sullivan. GA is dedicated to its green technologies that provide the best viable packaging solutions. Also, it continuously enhances the core services that will increase its business value for clients worldwide. “We take the most pride in our innovations. We have numerous patents and have been a trailblazer in this industry with regard to our ability to produce the finest wet press molded fiber for our clients,” concludes Sullivan.
